Details of the persons nominated for the Council election have now been released.
Contested
St Martin’s is the only island that will be contested.
Two persons have been nominated for the seat on St Martin’s:
TOBIN-DOUGAN, Toby
WHITE, Geoff
Consequently a poll will take place on St Martin’s on Thursday 1 May 2025.
This will be the first contested election on an off-island since the St Martin’s election in 2013.
Uncontested
The number of nominations for the other four islands is the same as the number of seats available, i.e. 12 for St Mary’s and one for each of the off-islands.
Consequently the Returning Officer has declared that the persons named below are elected as Councillors without a contest:
St Agnes
LEGG, Harry Francis
Bryher
SANDFORD, Alex
St Mary’s
BLACKWELL, Lynn
DEAN, Tim
FRANCIS, Robert
GROTTICK, Fran
GUY, Andy
MARCUS, Daniel Michael
MUMFORD, Avril Washington
NIXON, Stuart Anthony
PEACOCK, John
RODGER, Euan
SIMS, Steve
WILLIAMS, Joel
Tresco
DORRIEN-SMITH, Robert Arthur
The new appointments will begin on Tuesday 6 May 2025.
This is the first time that a full St Mary’s election (i.e. not a by-election) has been uncontested since 1981 – although there have been several occasions since then where the number of candidates was only one higher than the number of seats available.
The Statement of Persons Nominated for each island, and the Declaration of Results for the four uncontested islands, may be found on the Council’s local election webpage.
