‘Safer Workplace Better Business' is a health and safety guidance document for small businesses.
Under health and safety legislation businesses must be able to show that they have assessed all aspects of their business to enable them to put in place a plan to control the risks. They must assess the risk not only to staff, but also to any other person who may come into contact, including contractors and members of the public.
This document is designed to help focus on the risks that really matter in a workplace – the ones with the potential to cause real harm. The law does not expect businesses to eliminate all risk, but they are required to protect people as far as ‘reasonably practicable’. This document is for small-medium sized businesses such as restaurants, cafés, takeaways, retailers, bed and breakfast establishments, small hotels, public houses, small care homes, and offices.
