Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report
Sustainability Appraisal (SA) is the appraisal of the economic, environmental and social effects of a Local Plan from the outset of the preparation process to allow decisions to be made that accord with sustainable development. This report sets out the scope of what will be included within the Sustainability Appraisal of the emerging Isles of Scilly Local Plan.
In addition to SA, Local Plans must comply with the requirements of the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), in accordance with European Directive 2001/42/EC, to ensure that environmental effects are given full consideration alongside social and economic issues when preparing the Development Plan. Therefore, the requirements of the SEA Directive have been incorporated into the SA scoping process as can be seen in the Sustainability Framework of the report.
